The first footage from the "War for the Planet of the Apes" comes with a challenge: film your best ape imitation and be part of Caesar's army.
A year and a couple of months before its release, "War for the Planet of the Apes" revealed its first footage, showing behind-the-scene sequences where military forces are firing their guns the California Redwoods, the area where the apes chose to reside in the "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes." The military forces, according to The Hollywood Reporter, are shooting at invisible apes (which will later on be added by CGI).
What came next in the footage are "War for the Planet of the Apes" director Matt Reeves and Andy Serkis who plays the ape leader Caesar who posed a challenge to fans: walk and act like an ape, tape it, and become part of the film. Reeves and Serkis invited fans to post their videos of what Serkis describes as their "most lifelike ape imitation, where the chosen winner will be flown to the set, get set up in a motion picture suit and be part of "Caesar's greatest battle yet."
"War for the Planet of the Apes," directed by Matt Reeves, is currently filming in Vancouver, British Columbia. The final installment of the "Apes" franchise will also be penned by Reeves alongside co-writer Mark Bomback and will be produced by Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment, joined by TSG Entertainment, along with Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
The sequel to "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes," which features Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn and Judy Greer, will center on the growing conflict between the human race and the apes. Also starring in "War For The Planet of the Apes" are Sara Canning, Aleks Paunovic, Karin Konoval, James Pizziniato, Mercedes de la Zerda, Gabriel Chavarria, Terry Notary, Amiah Miller and Max Lloyd-Jones.
The film is set ot be released on July 14, 2017.
