After a recall of 145,000 Google and HP Chromebook 11 power supply chargers, more laptops with updated adapters may be available in the future HotHardware.com reported Friday.
"In the meantime, customers who have purchased an HP Chromebook 11 should not use the original charger provided with the product," an HP staff member told Techradar. "In the interim they may continue using their HP Chromebook 11 with any other Underwriters Laboratories-listed microUSB charger, for example one provided with a tablet or smartphone. We apologize for the inconvenience."
Google resumed sales of the laptop computer Tuesday, a month after the accessory was pulled back.
The chargers were purchased between Best Buy stores through the country, online at Amazon.com, bestbuy.com, Google Play at play.google.com, and HP shopping at shopping. hp.com. between Oct. and Nov. 2013. The chargers were also put with the $280 Chromebook 11 computer.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission advises those with affected devices to not utilize the charger anymore, and get in touch with Google so they can get a new charger at no cost.
Nine cases of the chargers overheating and melting. One instance involved a minor burn on a user. The charger also caused minimal property damage to a pillow in another.
The charger has the model number MU15-N1052-AOOS, which can be found on inner part of the charger near the prongs that go into wall outlets.
Those with affected chargers can call Google toll-free at (866) 628-1371 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. pacific time seven days a week. This is also available on the chromebook website at https://chromebook.com. Users will only have to select the hyperlink located on the highest point of the page, and then selecting Support. This will give additional details about the recall.
The HP Chromebook 11 is 11.6 inches, and has a microUSB port capable of powering its battery, a dual-core processor, a 16 gigabyte hard drive for storing documents, which are also kept in the computer's cloud where files are shared, and two USB 2 inserts.
