Manny Pacquiao's next fight is advertised as his last. His promoter and Top Rank CEO Bob Arum says the Filipino boxer will fight again on April 9 next year but will then retire to focus on his political career.
While this seems to be a convincing reason for many of his fans, his trainer Freddie Roach hints the April fight might not be the last for Pacman. The Boxing Hall of Fame member said Pacquiao should get a convincing victory on his next fight to get to Floyd Mayweather Jr. who previously defeated him in what was sold as the "Fight of the Century."
"Manny needs to fight, win, come out healthy and show the world his shoulder is 100%," Roach told Los Angeles Times. "If he does, I think we can get Mayweather."
Floyd Mayweather Jr. is already retired and Manny wants to become a senator in the Philippines. However, Roach believes the amount of money the two will earn will be too attractive to ignore.
"I don't see Floyd -- and Manny -- leaving all that money on the table," he said. "If Manny looks good, even if it's $100 million for Mayweather instead of $300 million, that's a lot of money. The way Mayweather spends money, and the way Manny is so generous with his, I would hate for either to go broke. This is a way for them to not go broke."
Details of Manny Pacquiao's next fight is still scarce. Rumors have it that the frontrunners to become Manny's next opponent are Amir Khan, Timothy Bradley, and Terence Crawford. Khan claimed he already signed a deal but Arum insists nothing is final yet.
"I haven't sent a contract to him. We haven't sent anything to him," Arum told ESPN's Dan Rafael. "Don't you think I'm the promoter of the fight and I would know if I sent a contract? It's not true. This is ridiculous. There is no deal. There is no contract. There has been no decision whatsoever."
