The now retired and engaged Derek Jeter finally opened up about the infamous gift basket rumor about him in an appearance on "Undeniable with Joe Buck."
It was in 2011 when the story first broke out that the New York Yankees star Derek Jeter giving gift baskets with his signed memorabilia to his one-night stands. According to Deadspin, Derek Jeter reportedly sends his one-night stands home in a rented car and in the back seat, waiting for them, is a gift basket containing Jeter's signed memorabilia, including a Jeter-signed baseball.
In his guesting in Joe Buck's DirecTV show, Derek Jeter addressed the issue, which the former baseball star very rarely does. Jeter said, "On top of it, it was a gift basket of my own memorabilia. It's a dumb story. And you really have to be dumber to believe it. But they believe it! You guys really believe that? My own memorabilia, I'm signing?"
Yahoo!, in its report, commented that Derek Jeter had been during the interview with Joe Buck the way he always was: smart, funny and charismatic. He even had the audience laugh several times during the interview. During the interview, Jeter also stressed out that despite the strange rumors about him, he doesn't hate the media and recognizes that the rumors come with him being a huge public figure.
As to why he chooses not to address the gift basket rumor, Derek Jeter said that it's because he knew that if starts addressing one rumor, he would have to address everything so he is better off ignoring the rumors.
He said, "I don't address them because once you address it, you have to address every single rumor that comes out. And then if one time you don't, they automatically assume it's true. So I just chose not to address any rumors out there."
