After years of planning and development will Tim Burton finally start the production of "Beetlejuice 2" this year?
While that remains to be seen, one thing is sure though, Tim Burton is actively gearing up for the sequel to the hit classic horror-comedy film in 1988 will happen.
In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, the 57-year-old award-winning director revealed that the script to "Beetlejuice 2" is already done.
"There's a script now, that I think is closer to what it could be and I'm excited about it," Burton excitingly said. "I wouldn't call it so much a sequel, but it'll have some characters [from the original 'Beetlejuice']. It's a bit too early to say but it's definitely something that's on my radar and something I'd love to do."
And while things are looking great for the sequel, Burton has yet to reveal the actors who will partake on the project.
With original cast members Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton already expressing their involvement with the sequel, another OG has reportedly publicly expressed her interest to join the line up.
Veteran actress Geena Davis admitted that she's very interested to reprise her role in Tim Burton's "Beetlejuice 2."
In an interview with ET Online, the 59-year-old actress who played the role of Barbara Maitland, the newly-departed ghost, in the original film, confessed that she "would love to" if asked.
"I did hear that it's really happening," she said of the sequel. "No one's talked to me about it. I would love to! That was one of my favorite movies, too."
Davis even quipped about how she could not seen any problems returning to "Beetlejuice 2" given how she hasn't aged, but she worries about her on-screen husband, Alec Baldwin.
"Ghosts probably don't age, and it's going to be 30 years now. Of course, I haven't aged, but I think Alec Baldwin (Adam Maitland) maybe has aged, perhaps," she quipped.
Meanwhile, Winona Ryder had previously confirmed "Beetlejuice 2" in her appearance with "Late Night with Seth Meyers."
"I think I can confirm it because Tim Burton did this interview," Ryder told Meyers when asked about the sequel. "It was very hush-hush, top secret, 'I don't know what may happen, I don't know,' and then he was doing some press for 'Big Eyes' and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's gonna be in it.' So can I say...? I mean if he said it. But I really don't know much more than anybody else."
With Tim Burton helming the project, "Beetlejuice 2" has no scheduled release date yet.
