Michelin Tire Recall: 1.3 Million Pulled Back For Tread and Air Loss

Michelin is pulling back 1.2 million because their treading can come off, and loss of air the company said in a safety recall on its website. Another one million were sold in Canada.

"Michelin recommends removal of these tires as soon as possible. Owners of the affected tires should visit an authorized Michelin retail location as soon as possible to have the tires replaced at no charge," the company said in a statement.

The recall affects Michelin's LTX M/S, LT 225/75R16, and 115/112R LRE tires. The tires were put on vehicles when they were first made, while others bought them as replacements. The tires were made between Jan. 2010, and June 2012.

Each tire has a DOT sequence which starts with B3JH AKEX. It concludes with a date code that has two digits for the week, and two digits for the year. The tires were also made between DOT production periods 0210, and 2512.

Those with questions and concerns can call Michelin's Consumer Care division at 1-800-231-5893m Monday thru Friday between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

The news is the latest development since Michelin pulled back a select few of its light truck replacement tires.

These include the Michelin LTX M/S 2: P275/55R20 111T RBL, P265/65R18 112T and P265/60R18 109T ORWL, the Michelin X Radial LT2: P265/65R18 112T and P275/55R20 111T, and Michelin Latitude Tour: P255/60R19 108S and P255/70R18 112T.

The tires also had the DOT code of B99Y, 56EX, and 1713 for the production year.

"Michelin recommends removal of these tires as soon as possible," the company in the safety recall information. "To reduce any inconvenience for consumers, Michelin will replace any tires from the list below on their vehicles even if they are not part of the 2,500 known affected tires. The removed tires will be replaced with a similar product free of charge.
