Warner Bros. has announced on October that "Justice League Dark," a supernatural take of the classic "Justice League" superhero team, is pushing through and production is set to begin next year. And although no director is on board and no release date is confirmed yet, recent reports say that producers are close to signing the main roles, including the actor to play the villain Anton Arcane.
According to Latino Review, Colin Farrell is eyed to play the occult magician John Constantine. Ewan McGregor, accordingly, is also considered for the role. John Constantine is recently played by Matt Ryan in the titular TV series and who is also featured in a crossover for "Arrow." Keanu Reeves also played the role in the 2005 film, "Constantine."
Also considered for the main roles of "Justice League Dark," according to the report, are Ron Perlman as Swamp Thing and Monica Bellucci as Madame Xanadu.
Heroic Hollywood, on the other hand, said that the producers are also looking for a black or Latina actress to fill in the role of Zatana. The report commented that "Jane the Virgin" star Gina Rodriguez may be a good choice for the character.
Heroic Hollywood added that "The Dark Knight Rises" star Ben Mendelsohn is also being eyed to play the villain Anton Arcane. It notes, however, that Mendelsohn's decision whether to take the role or not will depend as to who would be on board to helm "Justice League Dark."
Anton Arcane was a character created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson. Arcane is the arch nemesis of Swamp Thing and is a mad scientist who is obsessed with discovering immortality. His biogenetic experiments with the dead has led him to create the monsters called the "Un-Men." Anton Arcane was previously portrayed by Louis Jordan for Wes Craven's 1982 film "Swamp Thing." Jordan then reprised the role for the 1989 sequel, "The Return of Swamp Thing."
