Freestyle skier Gus Kenworthy is getting back to work after a month of coming out as he prepares for the Winter Dew Tour, where he is the defending champion of Slopestyle; the skier recently spoke with Buzzfeed, sharing about his preparations for the competition and revealing some secrets in a rapid-fire question and answer.
"Now that I've had this big weight taken off my shoulders, I think the next thing I want to do is really focus on my skiing and the sport," Gus Kenworthy told Buzzfeed. "I've always had my mind being pulled in two different ways-this internal battle going on. It's hard to give my skiing my complete focus, so I'm looking forward to skiing uninhibited. The next Olympics is my next hurdle, though it's a few years away.
Gus Kenworthy, in anticipation for his next competition at the Winter Dew Tour, said that it would be such an amazing feeling to compete and perform completely and authentically as himself. The upcoming Winter Dew Tour on Dec. 10 would be the first appearance for Gus Kenworthy as an out skier.
"I've been pretty good over the years with separating my two lives: my skiing mindset and my personal life, my love life and everything else," the pro skier said. "I've been compartmentalizing those different things and it still weighs heavy on me and it weighs heavy on my soul."
"It's allowed me to be easily distracted because I'd be in the mindset to compete and I'd be thinking about my run and what I'm about to do and I'd get distracted. I think having [my sexuality] out there in the open and me being able to feel comfortable and confident will change a lot," he added.
Buzzfeed also made a rapid-fire question and answer with Kenworthy, who revealed some juicy details about him. When asked about what his most used emoji currently is, Kenworthy said that it's the girl with pink sweaters.
Kenworthy also revealed to Buzzfeed that his celebrity crush is Matt Bomer, although his current favorite TV show is not "American Horror Story: Hotel" where Bomer is featured, but "How to Get Away With Murder," which he just started watching and that he is hooked!
Gus Kenworthy's interview with Buzzfeed is one of the many interviews the Olympic champ had after coming out. In a recent interview, he revealed that things have gone crazy after he came out. One of which is that his inbox is filled with messages from people sending him pictures of male genitalia.
