Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have faced some trials in their relationship, but probably the most difficult was the actress' health issue wherein she was required to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed.
According to NY Daily News, the operation came two years after Angie underwent a double mastectomy because she carried a mutation in the BRACA1 gene, giving her an 87 percent chance of getting breast cancer.
Several months after her operation, the 40-year-old actress wanted to get plastic surgery but her doctor declined her request.
"Angelina didn't want to have breast implants after her mastectomy, because it would require additional surgeries down the road, and possible complications," an insider explained to Radar Online.
"The alternative to the breast implants would have been taking fat from her abdomen to construct the breasts. Using her own tissue would have been more natural, but that surgery would have been a lot longer," their source added.
Unfortunately, Jolie is too thin to undergo that plastic surgery procedure so the only solution was to get breast implants.
"In the end, it all worked out and Angie was happy with the results," the insider revealed. "Down the line though, Angie will need to have the implants replaced."
Even if it was Angelina Jolie who's been going under the knife, her husband Brad Pitt remained supportive of her.
"There was no vanity to my wife's approach,'' he told New York Times via USA Today. "It was mature. This is our life and we're gonna make the best of it. There was a strength in that."
"It was just another one of those things in life that makes you tighter, and she was doing it for the kids, and she was doing it for her family so we could be together," the 51-year-old actor added. The "Maleficent" star lost her mother because of cancer that's why she is doing everything she can to prolong her life.
Angelina Jolie is lucky to have Brad Pitt as her husband because he never left her when she needed him the most.
"I knew through the surgeries that he was on my side and that this wasn't something where I was gonna feel less of a woman because my husband wasn't gonna let that happen,'' she said. "To face these issues together and speak about them and talk about what it is to be human, I think can be a beautiful thing."
