The Samsung Gear S2 is getting iOS support in the near future, a new report claimed. Beyond iPhone compatibility, the smartwatch will reportedly have the same features available to Android users.
Earlier this week, SamMobile said the South Korean tech firm is working to bring iOS support to the Gear S2 via an app. Apparently, the said app "will allow [users] to set up and customize the Gear S2 for use."
Every feature available for Android users will also be available to iPhone users as well. Those who want to use Samsung Pay though are still required to use a Samsung smartphone to use the feature.
The report's claims of the Tizen-based smartwatch supporting iOS isn't that far-fetched. Back in Sept, Samsung said it's "looking at possibilities to open it up to iOS," as Franchise Herald reported then.
It should be noted though that the new report remains unofficial. Samsung has yet to confirm if it's indeed bringing iOS support to the Gear S2.
"Now that the market is slowly becoming used to smartwatches, we are seeing more and more manufacturers where the device(s) in question only supported Android, adding support for Apple iOS," Android Headlines said.
As the website pointed out, Android Wear added iPhone support earlier this year. There's no news if other platforms such as Windows Mobile, BlackBerry 10 and Apple's own iOS are expanding compatibility though.
The Gear S2 runs on Samsung's proprietary Tizen platform. Launched earlier this year, it features a 1.2-inch round Super AMOLED 360 x 360p display, a 1GHz dual-core processor with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage. Connectivity is handled by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and NFC.
The 3G-enabled Gear S2 is coming to the US this month via T-Mobile and Verizon.
It remains to be seen if Samsung will indeed bring iOS support to the Gear S2.
