A 19-year-old teenager from England accidentally bought a photo of Microsoft's Xbox One game console on e-bay for $450 The Nottingham Post reported. Friday.
"I've had to make a joke out of it because I was that angry. At least we've now got something to laugh about in the years to come. I always buy stuff on eBay and this had never happened before. I looked at the seller's feedback and there was nothing negative. I bought it there and then because I thought it was a good deal. It's obvious now I've been conned out of my money. They'd written on the back of it 'thank you for your purchase'. I was fuming."
Peter Clatworthy, 19, believed he had purchased an actual Xbox one game console on eBay, but it ended up being just the image.
Clatworthy has disputed his claim with the online retailer, and will be getting his money back after proclaiming that his money should be returned.
"Customers can shop with confidence on eBay as we guarantee you will get your item or your money back," a spokesman for e-bay told The Post. "Mr Clatworthy is covered by the eBay money-back guarantee and we will be contacting him to put things right."
There been no reported incidences of a scam, but eBay users have been cautioned to shop safely.
"We are not aware of en eBay scam of this nature," Tessa Coates, trading standards officer at Nottinghamshire County Council told The Post. "However, we would encourage all eBay buyers to pay for their goods using PayPal to give them extra protection. PayPal states that if the item doesn't match the seller's description or gets lost in the post then it will give the buyer their money back. Our main tips for buying online generally this Christmas is make sure you're getting a good deal, know who you're dealing with and protect your personal and financial information."
The Xbox One has an improved kinect sensor, which enables players to operate the device just by talking. Individuals can also connect the console to their satellite television equipment in order to watch TV, and flip back and forth between gaming, and viewing shows. The Xbox 360, can also do the same.
The game console is the company's latest release since it launched its Xbox 360 in 2005, and follows Sony's PlayStation 4 game console a week prior.
