Director Ridley Scott, in a recent interview with IGN, owned up to the mistakes he committed for the "Alien" series and said he's avoiding to make the same mistake with "Prometheus."
"I'm trying to keep this for myself," Ridley Scott said in the interview, referring to "Prometheus" and his planned sequels including the upcoming "Prometheus 2," officially entitled "Alien: Paradise Lost."
"I let the other one [Alien] get away from me-I shouldn't have," he added.
"The Martian" director took the helm for the original 1979 "Aliens" movie, until the franchise moved from one director to another, including James Cameron and David Fincher who directed the 1986 "Aliens" and the 1992 "Alien 3," respectively.
Ridley Scott further revealed that he is not entirely letting "Alien" get away, saying that "Prometheus" will eventually go back to "Alien 1" and finally, for the first time ever, reveal who created the xenomorphs.
The director said, "I'm trying to re-resurrect the beast and let it off the hook for a while because I'm coming back into the back-end of 'Alien 1.' I'm gradually getting to 'Alien 1.'"
Finally, he dished the "Prometheus 2" or "Aliens: Paradise Lost" will start filming next year and fans will be assured of more sequels after that. "'Prometheus 2 will start getting shot in February and I've already begun now so I know what the script is. Then there will be another one after that and then maybe we'll be back into 'Alien 1,' as to why? Who would make such a dreadful thing?" Scott said.
Meanwhile, Director Neill Blompkamp's "Alien 5" is put on hold, which he himself announced: "Alien is kinda holding /pending 'Prometheus 2.' So I shall be working on other things... as much as I love xeno- and Lt. Ripley."
It was recently reported (via iO9) that Blompkamp, while "Alien 5" is still postponed, will be working with on a film adaptation of a new novel by Thomas Sweterlitsch entitled "The Gone World," a sci-fi time travel procedural.
