Salma Hayek posts a photo of her younger self on Instagram for Throwback Thursday, revealing a younger Salma who was an Olympic gymnast in the making.
"I wish I could still do that but at least I have proof that once upon a time I was a #gymnast #ludscanov #gym #tbt," Salma Hayek wrote on Instagram with a black and white picture of her in tights and leotards while practicing toe touches.
According to People, Salma Hayek was once an accomplished gymnast. She was also trained to become part of Mexico's Olympic national team.
Apparently, we all know Salma Hayek today to be one of Hollywood's dazzling actresses, who had appeared in films like "Grown Ups," "30 Rock," and "Savages." Why her Olympic dreamed died was because of her father who thought that being a child and being trained to be an Olympic gymnast do not jive well.
In 2012, on an interview with New Zealand Herald, Salma Hayek said that her father Sami refused to let her compete, saying, "They drafted me... to be part of the Olympic team! But I was eight or nine and my father said no because I would have to go live in Mexico City in a boarding school for gymnasts, do six hours, eight hours a day of training, which for me was like paradise."
After having been spotted by talent scouts in a gymnastics class in Mexico City in the 1970's, Salma Hayek was already molded to represent Mexico in the Games. Her father, however, refused to go further because she wants Salam to have a "normal childhood."
"My father thought I wouldn't have had a normal childhood, and he wanted me to be normal. It's too bad that with all his efforts it didn't work out! But anyway, it worked out for me because now I'm an actress!" Hayek added.
