Ever since he graced the cover of ESPN Magazine last month, where he finally came out, Olympic Champ and Professional Free Skier Gus Kenworthy has received mixed responses, did a lot of interviews and grabbed headlines from his Halloween outfits to his rumored romantic affair with a "mysterious older guy."
In his most recent interview with Attitude, the 24-year old Gus Kenworthy opened up about how "crazy" things became ever since he revealed that he was gay, including the messages he receive from followers in social media.
When asked about how he handles his newfound attention, Gus Kenworthy replied: "Oh my god I've had some crazy things! But I've tried to ignore them, not because I don't want to connect with people, but I've had a lot of kids saying that they're in the closet or are having similar feelings..."
The Olympic Champ said that as much as he can, he wanted to reach out to those who feels and experience the same things he had dealt with, but to his surprise, he has followers who are sharing things he didn't expect to find in his inbox.
He said, "So I've tried to kind of search through my inbox for those [kids or others seeking for advice], because I feel like those are the people that need to be responded to and need some attention. But in that process I've definitely opened up messages that are just of people's d-ks!"
"I'm like 'Why are you sending me this! This is ridiculous! So it's been a mix! But I've tried to find people who've told me something personal," he added.
Gus Kenworthy, in the same interview, said that it has been "a little of a whirlwind" although he does not ever regret coming out, saying that it is nice to be finally opening up. "It's just been quite the change, I guess! It feels like a lot at times, but it's something I wanted to open up about for so long I'm happy to finally do that and be myself, and not have to walk on eggshells."
