The Elkhart, Ind. Pizza Hut manager fired for refusing to work Thanksgiving Day will make a decision about whether to except his company's offer to return to work NBC television station affiliate WNDU Thursday.
"When I talked to them (Pizza Hut) I told them I needed some time to think about it," Rohr told The Elkhart Truth. "I was fired. It's kind of something to get past. I miss the people I worked with, but I need to make sure I'm making the right decision for me financially."
Rohr claims he was originally let go from his general manager job at for refusing to open his Pizza Hut's location on Jackson Blvd. Thanksgiving Day Elkhart Ind. according to CBS television station WSBT. Rohr proclaimed his argument during a meeting with him, and senior leadership of the franchise restaurant pizza chain.
"This was clearly an unfortunate situation, and we are very upset by what has transpired in Elkhart, Indiana," Pizza Hut said in a statement on its website. "While the choice as to whether a restaurant should be open or closed on a holiday is handled at the local level by our independent franchisees, we feel strongly that this situation could have been avoided. We respect an employee's decision not to work on a holiday if they so choose, which is why the vast majority of Pizza Huts in America are closed on Thanksgiving. The stores that are open to service their local communities are staffed by team members with the willingness to work on this day as determined by their own personal situations. We will monitor and evaluate this situation closely and regret what has occurred."
Rohr said while he was glad to get his way, he realized he needed to have a job to pay bills so is considering coming back, but is not sure.
"The whole day I had a smile pasted across my face, but then the next day I woke up and didn't have a job," Rohr told The Truth. "I was not necessarily unhappy but just worried. My fiancée of course supported the decision but of course we're worried about finances and running out of money and being able to pay bills."
