Following the somehow controversial exit of Michael Fassbender's girlfriend, Alicia Vikander from "Assassin's Creed" movie, "The Dark Knight Rises" star Marion Cotillard has reportedly tapped as replacement.
While the supposed role of the Fassbender's girlfriend was never really divulged, it's been said that Cotillard is about to take on a very important role in the movie adaptatation of the hit game, Deadline revealed.
In fact, the publication noted that together with Michael Fassbender there is already a plan for her to return in a sequel, be it the first film becomes successful.
Meanwhile, Ubisoft's Yvew Guillemot confirmed that the production has already commenced.
"We have the pleasure to announce today that the green light has been given by New Regency, and the production has already started. This is a very important milestone for the project and for our team on Assassin's Creed."
Comic Book added the cast members together with director Justin Kurzel are now in Malta for the film's production.
With the release date set on Dec. 21, 2016, Michael Fassbender admitted to Movie Pilot that making a movie out of a complex game is extremely challenging.
"That's always the challenge of something that's so dense, to really find something and pare it down and basically, there are so many elements to it, so trying to translate that to an audience, you have to pick key things," the actor explained. "So yes, that is part of it, getting through the density of it and paring down and engaging a simple story."
And in a separate interview with Game Spot, the Oscar-nominated actor further explained why it took a while before "Assassin's Creed" has finally able to move forward.
"You say it's a long time, but what I've found - it's all new to me, but starting to develop scripts and work on them, they take time," Fassbender explained.
Adding, "It just takes time to get a good story together and we really want to do it right. It's exciting. It's going to start this year, we'll be filming in September."
While Head of Content Azaïzia Aymar tried to keep things under wraps, he did post possible information about Michael Fassbender's role in the "Assassin's Creed" movie.
Blastr was able to caption Aymar's Twitter post suggesting "Assassin's Creed" spoilers.
Chances are Michael Fassbender will play both the modern-day Callum Lynch, "and Aguilar will be his ancestor in the past," Aymar tweeted.
Aymar added that there will be no Altair, Ezio or Connor, but he promised that, "It's possible you may find some familiar faces."
"Assassin's Creed" movie release date is set on Dec. 21, 2016.
