"Mad Max" director George Miller recently sat down with Deadline Hollywood and dished details about the most-awaited sequel to "Mad Max: Fury Road," confirming that Tom Hardy will be returning in the upcoming movie.
The 70-year old Miller is responsible for the reset of the "Mad Max" franchise with "Mad Max: Fury Road" coming thirty years after the last film, "Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome," was released. "Mad Max: Fury Road" became one of this year's blockbuster movies, earning over $350 million in the worldwide box office. Director Miller, accordingly, promised that there would be more "Mad Max" sequels and Tom Hardy will definitely be a part of it.
Miller further confirmed that although he had been working on several "Mad Max" scripts, including "Wasteland," in the process of producing "Fury Road," the sequel will not be called "Wasteland."
"Probably won't be called 'Wasteland.' I can say that. It was just the working title we gave it," the director said.
And when asked as when production would start for the "Mad Max: Fury Road" sequel, Miller said he is not keen with giving too much spoilers, saying, "The more I speculate about what's happening, the more I try to avoid spoilers this far out, and also I find myself talking around in circles."
"So the best thing I can say is that we're definitely in discussion about making more of these, but the timing of it, I'm really not sure," he added.
Miller also revealed that Tom Hardy will be part of the upcoming sequel. "We'll definitely see more of Tom," Miller confirmed.
The director, however, confirmed that fans may not see the return of original "Mad Max" star, Mel Gibson, saying, "Not in these movies, for a very simple reason. If Mel, who is 'Max' in a lot of people's memories, appeared in the next movie, it would pull audiences out of the movie for a bit, and we worked so hard to keep people immersed in the movie as much as possible."
He added that Mel Gibson appearing in "Mad Max: Fury Road" sequel is like Roger Moore featured in a Daniel Craig "James Bond" movie.
And speaking of "James Bond," Tom Hardy is topping the polls of various website surveys asking who the next James Bond should be. In a survey by Time, Tom Hardy came second, trailing behind Idris Elba. In an Ireland-based betting firm, however, it appears that Tom Hardy got the best odds for playing the next James Bond at 2/1.
