Kohl's Shooting: Alleged Shoplifting Extends to Parking Lot (VIDEO)

An individual, suspected of shoplifting from a Kohl's department store in Romeoville, Ill., was fired at by police when they saw him pulling an officer with his car The Chicago Tribune reported Friday.

Police received notification around 10 p.m. that a theft from the store was underway at the retailer Romeoville Police Chief Mark Turvey told The Tribune.

Officers monitored the exterior of the store and observed two men rolling a shopping cart to a Black Pontiac Sunfire according to Police, and people who saw the action The Tribune reported.

One of the officers was able to get up to the suspect headed towards the Sunfire according to police The Tribune reported. The suspect then reportedly "closed the car door on the officer's arm, not allowing the officer to disengage from the vehicle. The driver then drove away, dragging the officer with the vehicle. A second responding officer verbally ordered the driver multiple times to stop the vehicle as it continued in the parking lot, dragging the officer. After repeated orders to stop, the officer fired three to four shots at the driver."

The driver of the vehicle was injured in their left arm, according to police The Tribune reported. The operator, and a second passenger was arrested when the vehicle finally came to a halt. A third individual was also cuffed inside the Kohl's location. Police are figuring out charges.

The officer received medical attention and discharged from Bolingbrook Adventist Hospital. The driver was seen, at Loyola Medical Center.

The front entrance was closed off with police tape. Onlookers strutted up to it, and were cautioned by police about going under.

People were subsequently directed to a doorway away to the north.


"I didn't hear a thing," Debbie Turner, of Lockport. Ill. told The Tribune. Turner was in the store with her daughter Meghan during the incident.
