Gabourey Sidibe was promoted to a regular "Empire" season 2 cast long before the sophomore run of the Fox TV series started.
She got her biggest moment in the latest episode called "A High Hope for a Low Heaven." Her character Becky found a love life of her own in MC J Poppa (portrayed by actor Mo McRoe) and their scenes together stole the show.
Becky and Poppa engaged in a steam sex scene in the rooftop in the latest "Empire" season 2 episode and while this seems to be a momentous development for the her character, some people in the internet just can't help but make a joke out of it.
Sidibe won't back down though. The "Empire" season 2 cast is proud of doing something that has never been done on primetime television before.
"After we were shooting it, the camera guy came over, and he said, 'I've never shot a scene like this. And I've never seen a scene like this.' " Sidibe recalled talking to PEOPLE. "I was really happy to be part of something that's never been seen on primetime television before. And you don't notice it because you don't have to notice it, but there's never been someone of my skin color, my size, with somebody else of the same skin color in a love scene on primetime television."
"It's never happened," she added while laughing. "Just go through the books, it's never happened. And I'm not sure why it hasn't happened, but I hope there's more to come."
In a blog, Gabourey Sidibe, known for her role in 2009 film "Precious" that earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, acknowledged the ridicule she got from people because of that steamy scene.
"Also, yes. I, a plus sized, dark-skinned woman, had a love scene on primetime television," she wrote on the blog posted on Entertainment Weekly.
"I keep hearing that people are 'hating' on it. I'm not sure how anyone could hate on love but that's okay. You may have your memes. Honestly, I'm at work too busy to check Twitter anyway. #Booked."
The next "Empire" season 2 episode is called "True Love Never."
"Empire" season 2 cast is still lead by Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.
