Consumers eagerly wanting Qualcomm's Black Toq Smartwatch can pre-order it from the company's internet store PC Magazine reported Monday.
"Like a traditional watch, Toq displays information at a glance with no on/off switch. And paired with a smartphone to receive notifications and content, it allows the watch to seamlessly merge our physical and digital lives," Paul Jacobs Qualcomm chief executive officer said in a statement. "Leveraging these and other industry-leading technologies, we and our partners will enable new product opportunities and consumer experiences."
Qualcomm anticipates sending out device in black in the next one to three weeks. This goes in line with the company's Dec. 2 release date. A white model will hit the market sometime soon. The smartwatch costs $349.99 in black, with a white version coming soon.
The gadget will enable people to complete tasks normally done on hand held devices from their cuffs such as take calls, text messages, input calendar items, among others.
The Toq Smartwatch has the Android 4.0.3 ice cream sandwich operating system which allows users to multi-task, and personalize their phone's screens. Users can also access the device's camera after unlocking the phone, and view messages.
Calls can be taken or declined via Bluetooth technology. Text messages are another way to respond, and not pickup the device to answer a call. This can be done by gliding a finger across a button so pre-installed text message replies appear. Users would then send the message, and close the call.
Users can also look at messages, and reply using built-in responses. The watch also has AccuWeather data for people to check the weather forecast, a calendar so they can keep track of commitments, and stock ticker to monitor market prices. The Toq will also not have to be charged up for many days. This compares to Samsung's $299.99 Galaxy Gear smartwatch 24-hour charge.
