World's Longest Flight: Singapore Airlines Ends Airbus A340's 19-Hour Journey (VIDEO)

Singapore Airlines flew its longest route into Newark Liberty International Airport for the final time Saturday night N.J.com reported.

"It boiled down to the route didn't earn enough of a profit," Henry Harteveldt, a travel industry analyst at industry consulting firm Hudson Crossing told N.J.com. "Supporting the aircraft doesn't outweigh the cost involved. You need parts for this plane and there are only a handful available. "It's a shame this route didn't work out, but I would bet in a few years it might be reopened. It's one of those long, thin (low-demand) routes that might be viable if it flew a few times a week" instead of daily.

The flight was the only one that offered a 19-hour nonstop service flight from the United States to Changi International Airport. The same 9,506 flight out of Los Angeles stopped Oct. 22.

Regular passengers have reported the flight was convenient.

"I will miss them," Ken Jongsma, an engineer with Honeywell told N.J.com. "It's long no matter how you cut it but it beats spending time in an airport trying to make connections. Once I'm en route, I want to be there in the shortest time possible. Spending time in an airport waiting to make connections isn't fun."

The aircraft, an Airbus A340 jet had seats for 100 passengers in business class. Each row had four seats. This included one seat by the windows, and two in the aisles.

The seats measured 36 inches wide, which is similar to two coach seats on a standard airplane.

Passengers could also watch movies from 243 titles on a 15-inch video monitor. Three-hundred and fifty-eight televisions, 800 music compact discs, 22 radio channels, and 80 video games were also available.

"We want the passenger to come away from the overall experience feeling they've been looked after," James Bradbury-Boyd, a spokesman for the Singapore Airlines told N.J.com.
