A U.S. intelligence analysis backs theories that a bomb on board caused the crash and further suggests that terror group ISIS or its affiliates had planted the bomb, CNN reported.
Franchise Herald previously reported that a Russian top aviation official said that Kogalymavia Flight 9268, which is said to have broken into pieces in midair, was brought down by a bomb on board, although he did not confirm if ISIS was responsible for the bomb.
Royal United Services Institute and professor Michael Clarke said, "Early reports said that [the aircraft] split into two and that suggests a catastrophic failure, not a mechanical failure, but that suggests perhaps an explosion on board."
British foreign minister Philip Hammond also recently said that his government thinks there is a significant possibility that the crash was caused by an explosive device and that someone must have placed a bomb aboard the airliner.
Most recently, a U.S. intelligence shared the same theory, saying, "This airport has lax security. It is known for that. But there is intelligence suggesting an assist from someone at the airport."
According to the CNN report, several U.S. officials told them that U.S. intelligence indeed suggests the bomb on board that caused the crash was planted by terror group ISIS or an affiliate. And that someone at the Sharm el-Sheikh airport helped the terror group to load the bomb on the plane.
"Find your black boxes and analyze them, give us the results of your investigation and the depth of your expertise and prove we didn't do it or how it was downed. Die with your rage. We are the ones with God's blessing who brought it down. And God willing, one day we will reveal how, at the time we desire." This was the audio message posted Wednesday on social media by the ISIS Sinai branch, claiming they have downed the airliner.
Meanwhile, officials in Egypt and Russia have said that there's no evidence yet to prove ISIS is responsible for the Russian plane crash.
