Microsoft Xbox One Release Date: Newest Game Console Hits Stores

| By

The long-awaited Microsoft Xbox One game console hit stores at midnight Friday, USA Today reported.

"We're really gratified and humbled about the amazing interest there has been," Yusuf Mehdi, Microsoft senior vice president of interactive entertainment told USA Today. "We've done everything we could to build as many units as possible. That said, there is a decent chance in the early weeks that we may be sold out in spite of the number we have built, which is the largest we have ever built."

The game console is the company's latest release since it launched its Xbox 360 in 2005, and follows Sony's PlayStation 4 game console a week prior.

The Xbox 360 has an improved kinect sensor, which enables players to operate the device just by talking. Individuals can also connect the console to their satellite television equipment in order to watch TV, and flip back and forth between gaming, and viewing shows.

"The main thing that sold me was to be able to play a game and watch TV on the same screen," Brian West said of Nashville, Tenn., told USA Today. "I am tired of switching."

Ryan Brazzell, of Brentwood, Tenn. was another person to get their hands on one of the newest devices.

"I am excited to have this one," Brazzell told USA Today when buying the machine. "It is a new thing. It is family oriented."

Thirty-six people were outside at the Best Buy in Brentwood, Tenn. Shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday.

"I have wanted to get the Xbox one ever since it came out," Will Solari of Lincoln, Calif told USA Today. "It is truly an amazing piece of innovation I cannot wait to play and use." Solari camped out for his chance at a machine at a Roseville Calif. Best Buy with sleeping bags, energy drinks, and board games.
