Sony's new PS4 game console is now in the hands of one million people after big sales in the initial 24 hours for its United States launch Friday Gaming Illustrated reported Monday.
"PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal," Andrew House, President and group chief executive officer Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc. told Gaming Illustrated. "Sales remain very strong in North America, and we expect continued enthusiasm as we launch the PlayStation 4 in Europe and Latin America on November 29. We are extremely grateful for the passion of PlayStation fans and thank them for their continued support."
No information is available about how games such as FIFA 14, Madden 25, Call of Duty: Ghosts, Battlefield 4, and Assassin's Creed 4 faired on the machine's first day. The company also introduced other games in Killzone, and Shadow Fall and Knack.
Customers who sign up for an annual subscription with the PlayStation Network are eligible for a game for no charge.
Target, Amazon, and Fry's Electronics gave customers the option for a Buy Two Get One Free promotion from last Monday to Saturday.
The new $399 game console will have eight x86 CPU-codes titled Jaguar, and manufactured from Advanced Micro Devices PC World reported Wednesday. It also comes equipped with upgraded graphics coprocessors capable of handling 1.84 teraflops of performance.
Playstation 4 has a 500 gigabyte hard drive that can play blu-ray DVDs. There are also eight gigabytes of GDDR5 memory or quick network speed random access memory found in graphics cards. Game makers put 176 gigabytes of network speed a second on the machine since they wanted the computer to run faster.
There are also 11 apps including Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu Plus. Crackle, Crunchyroll, Epix, NBA Game Time, NHL GameCenter LIVE, Redbox Instant by Verizon, Vudu, and YuppTV.
