"Pitch Perfect 3," which is scheduled for release in July 21, 2017, will see the return of Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson and Brittany Snow as they reprise their roles as Barden Bellas; director Elizabeth Banks, who also played as Gail in "Pitch Perfect 2," is also recently confirmed to be helming the second sequel for the hit musical comedy film.
"Pitch Perfect 3" will be penned by Kay Cannon, who according to The Hollywood Reporter, was the first person hired for the third installment. Producing the film will be Banks, along with his husband, Max Handelman and Paul Brooks of Gold Circle.
The THR report added that with "Pitch Perfect 2" grossing 285.2 million worldwide, Banks warranted her slate for the next installment. The debut week earnings of "Pitch Perfect 3," amounting to $69 million, marked the highest domestic opening ever for a first-time director and even surpassed the domestic opening of "Mad Max: Fury Road."
Solidifying her directing career, Elizabeth recently signed for the reboot of "Charlie's Angels" and the adaptation of the young adult bestseller "Red Queen." She is also returning as Effie Trinket in the final installment of "The Hunger Games" and is reportedly scheduled to host an episode of "Saturday Night Live" in November.
The Washington Post, in its report, addressed speculations for the "Pitch Perfect 3" plot. Fans, since the third installment has been confirmed, have greatly speculated about what's next for the Barden Bellas after winning the national and world championships.
According to The Washington Post, since the Barden Bellas had already hurdled the challenge of winning the world championships, they may finally take it a step higher by becoming professional singers.
The report emphasized that it would be so "awful" to see the Barden Bellas as "harried graduate students" in "Pitch Perfect 3." It noted that by the time the third installment is released, Anna Kendrick would be 31 years old and Rebel Wilson will be 37 and it would be awkward if they remain as undergraduates.
