Sarah Silverman Taken Aback By Fan’s Question, Reveals Her Regrettable, ‘Most Racist’ Joke

| By

"It's totally racist out of context, and I regret that."

On the Thursday episode of "Watch What Happens Live," Sarah Silver dropped her jaw when a caller asked, "What is the most regrettable joke you've ever delivered?"

The question got Silverman taken aback and took a while before she can respond. So Andy Cohen followed up and asked Silverman if there was a joke she made that "have her felt like, 'Yeah I wish that I had not said that.'"

"Yeah, but no in that I like looking back at stuff I did 10 years ago and cringeing. That means I'm growing and changing. I like to be changed by new information," said 44-year old Sarah Silverman (via People), before revealing her most regrettable joke.

She continued by saying that the most regrettable joke she has made was way back in 2007, an episode in "The Sarah Silverman Program," particularly for a sketch called "Face Wars," which according to her, has become awkward to recall in the face of modern social media.

In the sketch, Silverman and a waiter argued on whether it's harder to be black or Jewish so they decided to switch roles for a day. "It's really aggressively stupid and we're both idiots," she said.

The sketch had Sarah wore a blackface and posted a photo of it for her fans. She further said, "I'm in the most racist blackface, and he's [waiter] wearing like peyos and a yarmulke, and a big fake Jewish nose, and he's wearing a t-shirt that says 'I love money.' And it's great but there's a still photo of me on Twitter in blackface and it's totally out of context."

"I tweeted it when Twitter was new and the people that followed me watched my show," Silverman added. She said that with her most regrettable joke being "forever there" [Twitter], it's "out of comment, out of context" and she definitely regrets it, but there's nothing she can do about that.

Recently, New York Daily News reported about a Florida teenager who got the ire of social media for donning her Nicki Minaj Halloween costume and wearing a blackface. The high school student wore skin-tight leopard attire, padded her behind and painted her face black.

Days before that, an Alabama professor also sparked outrage on Facebook after posting a picture of him (now removed) in Kanye West costume (Kanye glasses and a cardboard with writing, "Kanye for Prez 2020") and painting his face black.
