Sprint customers will be able to choose from phones that have three band widths, and high definition voice on all of the mobile phone carrier's releases new devices next year CNET reported Wednesday.
The bandwidths also known as triband will help increase the speed of Sprint's Spark brand LTE service network in time for its launch in 100 of the biggest Untied States cities towards the end of 2016 Bloomberg reported. These include Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, and Tampa.
"The goal is to go faster," Joe Euteneuer, chief financial officer at Sprint told CNET. "You'll be pretty happy with the experience. We're trying to protect unlimited for as long as possible," he said. "We believe we have a long runway with it."
Sprint is expected to begin rolling out the new devices in the fourth fiscal quarter, before making a complete change next year.
"We now have a way to utilize 2.5 as a speed differentiation because of that capacity we have," Euteneuer told Fierce Wireless. "The network experience just becomes much richer and we're hoping this key differentiation, when complete, is speed. We are trying to protect unlimited for as long as it's possible. If it doesn't become viable anymore then we would stop. But it's something we think we have a good long runway with." The company also hopes to keep its unlimited smartphone and data pricing where they are.
The company hopes to install 5,000 2.5 GHz TD-LTE speeds by the end of 2013, and have 100 million points of presence with the new bandwith as 2014 concludes.
The company also announced Wednesday, it will not going to partake in the auction for the 1900 MHz PCS H Jan. 22.
"Given our belief for the lower-band spectrum, we have made the decision not to participate in that auction," Euteneuer told Fierce Wireless.
