Early-Bird Shoppers Enter Best Buy 6 a.m. Thanksgiving Day

| By

Eager shoppers can get an early start on their holiday shopping with Best Buy's 6 a.m. start time the company said in a release on its website.

"The expansion of the Thanksgiving bargain-shopping days to include Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday has transformed this period with more intensive shopping planned for Black Friday this year than at any time since at least 2009 when the survey began," Michael Niemira, chief economist of the International Council of Shopping Centers told The Minnesota Star Tribune.

Stores in Maine, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island will stayed closed until the wee hours of the morning Black Friday due to set laws in each state.

Best Buy's five stores in Maine, and Puerto Rice will unlock its doors at 12:01 a.m. Nov. 29, while its stores in Massachusetts and Rhode Island are scheduled to open up at 1 a.m.

Company store locations and mobile sites in malls will be dependent upon the hours of each shopping locality.

The retailer's mobile stores that do not exist in malls have a 6 p.m. opening Thanksgiving Day.

"There is no doubt that the decision to open earlier than last year on Thanksgiving affects Best Buy, but much of the internal feedback we have gotten so far reflects our collective desire to serve customers and have a successful holiday," the company said in a statement. "All affected hourly store employees will, of course, receive holiday pay."

Best Buy's news is the latest development in retailers wanting to give customers a head start on the holiday shopping season.

Kmart will open for 41 consecutive hours from 6 a.m. Thanksgiving Day until 11 p.m. Black Friday CNN Money reported.

Toys R Us will open at 5 p.m., Thanksgiving Day, three hours earlier than last year's 8 p.m. opening, while Macy's, Kohl's, J.C. Penney, and Sears expect to unlock its doors at 8 p.m.
