20th Century Fox's "War for the Planet of the Apes" has already begun its production and new character apes will be joining the cast of the upcoming sequel to be played by Sara Canning and Judy Greer.
Venture Capital Post confirmed on Tuesday that Judy Greer will be taking on her previous role as Chimpanzee Cornelia, the mate of Andy Serkis' chief monkey Caesar. On the other hand, Deadline also reported that "Hell on Wheels" star Sara Canning will be playing a new ape role, whose name and details about the character are still under the wraps.
Deadline also previously confirmed that "Continuum" and "iZombie" star Aleks Paunovic will also be helping the army of Caesar as a new ape, but like Canning, Paunovic's name and character is yet to be revealed.
Canning was previously featured in the TV series "Remedy" and "Vampire Diaries." She also starred in "The Right Kind of Wrong" alongside Ryan Kwanten and Catherine O'Hara.
Canning and Greer will be joining cast Steve Zahn and Woody Harrelson for the eighth installment of the "Planet of the Apes" franchise. In my previous report for iSchoolGuide, it was confirmed that Steve Zahn will be playing a new ape role who will join the army of Andy Serkis' Caesar. While Woody Harrelson will be playing a "villainous human" dubbed as The Colonel.
Also returning to the "War for the Planet of the Apes" cast is Karin Konoval as the orangutan Maurice. Other stars that will be featured in the sequel are James Pizziniato, Mercedes de la Zerda, Gabriel Chavarria whose role is still unannounced, Terry Notary, Amiah Miller and Max Lloyd-Jones.
"War for the Planet of the Apes," set to be released on July 14, 2017, will be under the helm of returning director Matt Reeves. Reeves will be co-writing the screenplay with Mark Bomback. The sequel will be produced by Peter Chernin and Jenno Topping of Chernin Entertainment, joined by TSG Entertainment, along with Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
