Privacy is a big deal for Benedict Cumberbatch's wife and son. Most fans of the "Sherlock" star understand this and try to keep their distance.
One particular follower, however, thought differently.
According to The Independent UK, a woman was warned by police to stay away from the British superstar after she took her admiration for the Academy Award nominee a step too far.
Sunday Mirror reported that the said woman left eerie red ribbons on his car and even on the window of his own house. It was reportedly a reference to Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "A Study In Scarlet" where Sherlock Holmes used red ribbons to tie his files together.
"Benedict is used to people mobbing him wherever he goes and he's a good sport about it," an insider reportedly told the publication. "But this individual has taken things to the next level and there was no option but to pursue official action."
Putting Benedict Cumberbatch's wife and son in potential danger, however, apparently brings out the protective father in him.
"Turning up at professional events is one thing, but arriving uninvited at the family home is quite another," the source continued. "It might be that she thinks it's harmless, but it does feel a bit sinister. Leaving red ribbons is obviously a bit of a game, but it does feel quite dark."
The Metropolitan Police quickly responded to the call and issued the woman an official Police Information Notice (PIN) for harassment. This restricts the woman from visiting the actor's home.
Fearing that she might wait for him somewhere else, Mirror added that "The Imitation Game" star beefed up security at the theater where he is currently playing "Hamlet."
Benedict Cumberbatch, his wife, and son were first seen out in public during a stroll around London after the little tot's christening in Isle Of Wight. The couple also tied the knot in the same church last February.
