In the wake of Hurrican Patricia, "Teen Mom OG" star Farrah Abraham recently used the hashtag #HurricanePatricia on totally irrelevant Instagram posts to get more likes and shares.
In what was described by WetPaint as a "desperate attempt" to attract more views on social media, Abraham has developed a habit of taking advantage of trending topics so her posts get more exposure, even if that trending topic is a disaster that has claimed lives of people.
On Saturday, the 24-year old "Teen Mom" star shared a post of Drake's "Hotline Bling's" artwork with the caption: "Great artwork for this song. Love where @Drake gets his bling. @FarrahsFriends #birthday #Adele #OneYearSinceStealMyGirl #HurricanePatricia"
In the Instagram post, Abraham even used other trending topics at the time connected to Adele's new single and One Direction. According to US Weekly, "Farrah's Friends" refers to Abraham's webcam modeling website, which she co-owns with her friends.
The day before Farrah Abraham's Instagram post about Drake, she also promoted about Farrah's Friends Live.com's "Earn Money With Farrah," still using the same hashtag but without the word 'hurricane.' This time, she made use of the trending topics related to Kappa Delta Founder's Day and the F1 Race Circuit.
She posted a picture of her in black bikini with 100 dollar bills and a list of perks the clients can avail with the caption: "It's live! Make money with me! Follow @farrahsfriendslive #webcamtoy #kD1897 #Spiritsplash #GHOE #Patricia #cota"
The exploitation of Hurricane Patricia has drawn Farrah Abrahams into the heat of criticisms from Instagram users, who were angered by her posts.
"You are the worst person on the face of this planet," one Instagram user commented.
"I am curious to why you are using the hashtag 'Hurricane Patricia' when in fact your post has nothing to do with or has no relation to this specific image [Drake]... Just so you know, my parents whom I love dearly, reside in PV Mexico plus I spent almost 24 hours in shambles because I was worried for their safety. I have no judgement towards who you are or what you do in your life to make a living, but please remember to be respectful when you walk through life... Because people are watching. Respect > fame. ALWAYS," another one said.
