Many people were surprised when Marvel and Sony announced that the new Spider-Man is Tom Holland.
The 19-year-old actor wasn't a fan favorite, but the producers chose him amongst other candidates.
"Sony, Marvel, Kevin [Feig] and I all knew that for Peter Parker, we had to find a vibrant, talented young actor capable of embodying one of the most well-known characters in the world," Amy Pascal of Sony said. "With Tom, we've found the perfect actor to bring Spider-Man's story into the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
There were rumors that Tom Holland already knew he got the role of Peter Parker two years ago. According to Movie Pilot, the actor was asked by a reporter what superhero he would like to play in the future.
"Maybe...maybe Spider-Man in like ten years time, maybe!" he teased.
"Get ready for the re-boot of the re-boot!" the reported joked. "The re-boot of the re-boot? If they made one,*shrugs* I don't know!" the young actor replied. Maybe Marvel and Sony have been planning "Spider-Man" for quite some time now.
Filling up the shoes of the former "Spider-Man" actors is not that easy, but the star of "In the Heart of the Sea" is prepared for the challenge. During a recent interview with Hey U Guys, Tom Holland was asked if the previous actors who played Peter Parker, including Andrew Garfield influenced his performance.
"I think it's impossible not to, they were so great and such real and rich performances and there's obviously factors I love and I will continue to try and recreate," he said as reported by ComingSoon, "but I think the most important thing at the moment is making a film which is obviously of the same character but make it a new and exciting movie."
Starring in a major Hollywood film like "Spider-Man" could mean instant fame for the English actor. Will he be able to handle the fame or end up being miserable like Andrew Garfield? Last month, the 32-year-old actor revealed his current state.
"I'm not OK. I am not OK. That feels really good to say to you," he confessed to USA Today. "I'm really not all right. I'm in the struggle of being a person. I haven't got anything figured out." Only time will tell if Tom Holland will be able to handle the pressure of being the next Spider-Man.
