Sony's PlayStation 4 gaming console is taking the fight to rival Xbox One with an official Twitch app and a price cut in several markets ahead of the holidays.
Twitch's presence in the PS4 isn't exactly new as players have used it before. With an official app though, players can now "watch, chat and interact with any broadcaster on Twitch," as explained in the video you can watch below:
According to PlayStation Lifestyle, the official Twitch app makes it possible "to follow specific channels and games, with recorded videos on the top titles, broadcasters and eSports events available to view at any time."
The PlayStation 4 app is now available for North, Central and South America with other regions to follow. Per the official Twitch blog, it will also be available for the PS3 and Vita "later this fall."
As The Verge pointed out, the launch of a dedicated Twitch app for the PlayStation 4 breaks Xbox One owners' monopoly of enjoying all its features. And with a price cut already in place, you may want to consider picking up Sony's gaming console soon.
"We are pleased to announce that from [Oct. 21] the 500GB PS4 will be available across the SCEE region from the new low price of €349.99/£299.99 (RRP)," PlayStation Blog said.
Reportedly, the PS4 now retails for €349.99 in Portugal, Spain, Benelux, France, Ireland and Italy; $479.95 in Australia; $569.95 in New Zealand; €349.95 in Germany and Austria and AED 1,399 in the United Arab Emirates.
Sony did point out that the price cut isn't limited to the countries mentioned above.
As Tech Times noted, the announcement follows an earlier price cut announcement for the US and Canada where the 500GB PS4 now sells for $349.99 and $429.99 CAD, respectively. Reportedly, the reduced price is "just in time for the holidays" which should attract more buyers.
