The latest rumor suggests the HTC Vive's release date is on Dec. 8 with the SteamVR headset.
In an interview with Polish website TVN24Bis.pl, HTC Product Commercialization Manager Bartosz Żuk said the Vive will "premiere" on Dec. 8 "which may mean it is officially unveiled in its commercial form rather than [be] available to buy," KitGuru reported.
Redditor matey0 also caught Żuk in another interview saying the same thing. Although it's in Polish, he said the HTC employee said the HTV Vive is rolling out on Dec. 8.
Since it's coming from an HTC employee, that means the news on the HTC Vive release date is true, right? Not really.
"I would not consider this information confirmed or from HTC official channels," an official rep for the Taiwanese smartphone maker said when asked by Road to VR for comment on the matter.
But all is not lost. According to the website, Żuk also mentioned that the Vive VR headset will launch in the US, UK and Germany which agrees an earlier announcement from HTC that it will be available in "limited quantity" this year, with the bulk of the shipments due in 2016.
GameRant offered its two cents on the matter and zeroed in on an alternative translation of the word "premiere."
"It's also within the realm of possibility that the premiere might also simply be an unveiling of the final HTC Vive as well as the announcement of a final release date."
Franchise Herald picked up on rumors that the consumer Vive might be unveiled at a mid-October HTC event which the tech firm already denied, according to VR Focus.
Days prior to Żuk's interview, the website reported that HTC US president Jason Mackenzie confirmed there is "no change" to plans for the HTC Vive release date this year and that the consumer version reveal is set for "later this year."
