Samsung Gear S2 3G Price $50 More; Tizen Smartwatch Coming To T-Mobile, Verizon Next Month

| By

Verizon and T-Mobile are bringing the Samsung Gear S2 3G in Nov. and as expected, its price will be more than the non-3G version.

Verizon announced last week that they've opened pre-orders for the Gear S2 3G for $349.99 contract-free or $299.99 with a two-year contract. Starting Nov. 6, it can be purchased online and in stores.

"Customers can add the Gear S2 to their Verizon account for $5 per month," Verizon said.

On the other hand, T-Mobile will offer the Samsung Gear S2 3G on Nov. 15 both online and in participating stores for a price of $359 without a contract or $15 on a two-year contract.

For $5 a month, Un-carrier customers "can call, tweet and email-on-the-go with unlimited talk, text and data" using the Tizen smartwatch.

The Tizen smartwatch will reportedly be available in Dark Grey and Silver for both Verizon and T-Mobile.

"Although it doesn't offer LTE support, if you're someone who doesn't want to be tied down by your smartphone, the 3G Gear S2 could be a good option," The Verge said.

AT&T is also expected to make Samsung's wearable device available on their network but it hasn't made any announcements about it.

Unveiled in the summer, the Samsung Gear S2 is the latest smartwatch from the South Korean tech firm. It has a 1.2-inch round Super AMOLED 360 x 360 display powered by a 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage.

According to PCMag, the non-3G version fo the smartwatch has a three-day battery life via a 250mAh battery which can be charged wirelessly. Apart from 3G, connectivity options include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and a larger 300mAh battery.

As Franchise Herald reported last month, the Gear S2 impressed in early reviews in terms of its design and rotating bezel as a means to navigate its Tizen UI.

For comparison, the price of a non-3G Samsung Gear S2 is $300.
