Chris Evans: ‘Top Gear’ New Hosts Chosen; Says He ‘Can’t Wait’ For Clarkson’s Amazon Show

| By

"Top Gear" host Chris Evans said his new co-hosts have been chosen but he won't be revealing who made the cut just yet.

Speaking to the BBC's Newsbeat, Evans said "people are on the verge of signing" to join him in the show.

The 49-year-old also said filming should start this week "[s]o it's going to become obvious."

As the Evening Standard pointed out, "Top Gear" opened auditions for new hosts earlier this year. To that end, Evans revealed applications have been shortlisted in response to a caller for the BBC Radio One Breakfast Show.

"But we did look at every single one of them and we called back a few people and we invited those people down the 'Top Gear' track at Dunsfold Aerodrome."

The "TFL Friday" host said they were given "full on proper scripted multi-camera auditions" and that an announcement should be made soon.

Chris Evans took over as "Top Gear's" new host after former frontman Jeremy Clarkson was fired over a "fracas" with a producer. Friends and co-hosts James May and Richard Hammond followed him out soon after.

The trio have since signed on with Amazon and just announced they've begun filming their yet-to-be-named show - much to the delight of fans, and even Evans himself who said he "can't wait" for it.

"More the merrier," he said, according to Newsbeat.

"They are amazing at what they do. That's why 'Top Gear' is the worldwide phenomenon that it is."

There is no enmity among the men. Evans said he even went on a bet with May just recently.

"He [James] always wanted a 1965/66 Alfa Romeo Duetto, which is the Alfa Rome Spider from the film 'The Graduate.' I acquired one and I tested it to him and said, 'What do you think? Do I win?,'" he explained.

Apparently, "Captain Slow" bet him that the car will break down in 500 miles or six months.

Watch Chris Evans in his first tour of duty as new "Top Gear" host in when the show returns May 2016.
