Hostess' infamous food item, Twinkies is being put to good use at one restaurant in Philadelphia Fox News reported Tuesday.
The food establishment PYT Philly now sells a deep-fried twinkie burger, which consists of a burger with beef pork, american cheese, and bacon wedged in the middle of two deep-fried Twinkies used as buns.
"This Sunday, someone brought in Twinkies and the owner said let's deep fry these," PYT manager Malcolm Kenyatta told Fox News. "At PYT, we don't want to have those conversations This is an escape." The new creation is available for $12 for a short time.
"We were playing around with them and came up with the idea for the burger," Sara Brown, a co-owner at PYT told The Los Angeles Times.
The food item may be heading towards Los Angeles in the near future, an area of the country which has several burger joints not on the east coast such as In-N-Out Burger.
"Well, I love L.A.," Brown told The Times. "It's definitely on the to-do list."
Several regulars of PYT had mixed reviews of the new food item when staff posted a photo of the creation on their Facebook page. "We are really sorry about this, but someone had to do it," the restaurant said with the posting.
"I'm sorry but that is gross," one user said. "Hostess cake company would be proud." another said.
"That looks like a heart attack waiting to happen but good lord it looks freakin good," said a third person.
According to People Magazine, The restaurant creates different burger combinations every week. These have included the spaghetti burger, and fried-lasagna burger.
Twinkies were back on store shelves July 15 after being removed in November because Hostess and employees in its bakery workers union could not settle an issue about pay and benefits CNN Money reported.
