Nvidia Game Ready Drivers Will Need GeForce Experience Sign-Up By Dec; More GFE Features Coming

| By

Nvidia's Game Ready drivers will soon come from just one source as the company said it will only launch them via GeForce Experience which required users to sign-up.

"Nvidia will still release new drivers through its website, but they'll be restricted to quarterly updates for things like bug fixes and major new features," PC Gamer said.

On the other hand, the more frequent Game Ready drivers will now be exclusively available via the GeForce Experience software which requires registration.

Nvidia's Sean Pelletier told PC World that the move will make things less complicated for casual gamers who "don't want to be inundated with these [Game Ready] drivers" and hardcore gamers "who want to play a game the day it comes out with all the bells and whistles."

"[Hardcore gamers are] obviously the demographic we're looking at for Game Ready drivers," Pelletier added.

"We're targeting GFE as a single-source destination for those gamers."

With an estimated 90 percent of GeForce owners updating their drivers using GFE, Nvidia said the change shouldn't have much of an effect. But why mess with the status quo anyway? That's because more features are coming to GFE, according to PC World.

"PC gaming news will make its way into GeForce Experience, as well as hardware giveaways and early access to games."

The website said that in the future, free games bundled with Team Green's video cards could be given away via GFE as well. Beta codes for upcoming games could also be distributed in a similar manner.

PC World's criticized Nvidia's plan saying it's "like an overarch that benefits Nvidia more than actual gamers. Commenters on the piece chimed in.

"Forcing a software install and registration on the most enthusiastic section of your users? So dumb," one commenter said.

"A better solution is to make Game-Ready drivers optional. Users who need it will install it. Simple. No mandatory GeForce Experience installation as well," another one suggested.
