Lenovo is expanding its product base with the unveiling of its Yoga Tablet, and naming of actor, and tech investor Ashton Kutcher as its product engineer and celebrity spokesperson Wednesday.
"This partnership goes beyond traditional bounds by deeply integrating him into our organization as a product engineer," David Roman, chief marketing officer at Lenovo told USA Today. "Ashton will help us break new ground by challenging assumptions, bringing new perspective and contributing his technical expertise to Yoga Tablet and other devices."
The new yoga tablet has 18 hours of battery life, and a kickstand which expands out into the back of the device. This allows the device to appear upright, and screen to slant toward the front of the surface it is sitting on.
The devices, known as the Yoga Tablet 8 and Yoga Tablet 10 begin at $249 and $299 in the United States. People can also use the computers as a charging station for other devices they may have including smartphones CNET reported. This is done by using a micro-USB port, which needs a micro-USB to micro-USB OTG cable.
The computers also have a quad-core 1.2 gigahertz MT8389 processor, one gigabyte of ram, 16 gigabytes of internal storage, and a microSD card slot capable of using 64 gigabyte memory cards. Users can also access Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0. An option for 3G speed is also available.
Kutcher's investment firm has put money towards or collaborated on apps such as Airbnb, Foursquare, Spotify, Path, Uber and others.
"If you look at my career, what's constant is I like to take risks, so does Lenovo," Ashton Kutcher, co-founder of A-Grade Investments told USA Today. "Lenovo is all about innovation and strong leadership. "Lenovo makes really, really, really good hardware. I hope to make their products as consumer friendly as possible."
