Many people were surprised when the producers of "Spectre" announced early this year that the new Bond girl will be Monica Bellucci since most of the leading ladies of Agent 007 are young.
Even the 51-year-old actress was surprised when she was asked to do the role.
"I just blurted out: I'm not a girl, I'm a woman, I'm a mature woman," she told The Sunday Times. "Do I have to replace Judi Dench?" During a recent interview with The Telegraph, the Italian actress revealed the reason why she accepted the role of the new Bond girl.
"I assumed they wanted me to play the new M," she smiled. "I really did. But when Sam explained that he wanted an adult woman to seduce Bond for the first time, I realized that this was going to be revolutionary. It's such a beautiful example to set for other actresses - and other women," she explained.
Monica Bellucci also shared her experience working with "Spectre" lead star. "Daniel [Craig] is so generous as an actor and a man, so I was never uncomfortable," she said. "When you have to do intimate scenes with someone, it's so important for the chemistry to be there - because then it becomes more like a tango."
The mother of two was asked if she would ever do nude scenes again just like in her 2000 film "Malena." "Sexy, but not nude," she replied. "I have done them in the past, of course - and it's not because I've had children that I have to do things that are proper."
Known for her role as Persephone in "The Matrix" film franchise, Bellucci is rarely seen doing a comedy and that's what she wanted to do at the moment. "Do you know who I would love to play?" she laughed. "Morticia Addams - then I could use all that darkness to be funny."
Many women envy Monica Bellucci for her amazing beauty and body, but she admitted that she isn't a gym buff. In preparation for her role as the new Bond girl in "Spectre," she said that all she did was avoid pasta for a few days even if she is fond of eating cakes and pasta.
