Google Smartwatch Release Date: New Device Due Out in Coming Months (PHOTO)

In an effort to make strides in the market, Google plans to widely introduce its version the smartwatch technology device in the coming months The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

"I have several interesting rumors that I feel relatively confident about but either don't have visual evidence or a second confirmation," Artem Russakovskii told Gigaom.com last month.

The new device will operate on Android, and be combined with Google's personal assistant Google Now. This can answer users questions, suggest ideas, and forecast what types of information consumers will want to find. The company has also been working on conserving energy on the watch so it won't need to be charged as much The Journal reported.

The smartwatch will also be able to interact with other smartphone devices, and gather information like travel schedules in someone's e-mail.

The smartwatch market has not prospered just yet, although there is interest because there aren't many things one can do with them, and can be expensive.

The device's popularity could rise, however, with Google's release of its version of the device, especially after it launched its Google Glass device also known as web connected eyewear. The device also has potential to keep customers using Android smartphones, and not opt to its competitors Apple, and Microsoft. Samsung introduced its own version of the watch, the $299 Galaxy Gear digital in September but it has not taken off as expected. Samsung is also building electronic eyewear.

The device comes installed with apps, and is capable of transmitting information to and from smartphones.

According to The Journal, technology companies have looked into smartwatch devices for a while.

Makers have also made models of the devices in order to exhibit them to clients.

This comes after they initially did not think they were worthy pieces of smartphone technology because of their cost to create them.
