Enthusiasts will be able to experience a fully rendered VR environment with the upcoming launch of the first ever virtual reality theme park, "The Void," in Utah.
In fact, reception for the park has been so promising that tickets for beta testing "sold out within hours" according to Road To VR. Slots will reportedly be opened until Oct. 26.
Echobase tried out a demo for the games at "The Void" recently. Although there was a slight scepticism about the park's promise of a completely rendered 3D VR space, that quickly disappeared as soon as the game started. Needless to say, the reviewer admitted that he was "wrong" to be skeptical.
"What these guys are working on is not only the future of gaming, but the future of education, advanced training, and simulations as we know it," the review said.
Set-up and configuration reportedly only took 3-4 minutes. In the demo, testers were equipped with a prototype headset which was basically "an Oculus strapped to a snowboarding helmet with a leap motion for hand tracking" and a vest. However, there were reportedly other equipment that were still being developed for a better experience inside the virtual reality theme park.
"The Void combines an untethered VR experience with room-scale tracking, or rather 'facility-scale' tracking. But like the Tardis, The Void is bigger on the inside," Road To VR pointed out.
"The physical tracking space allows you enough room to experience 'redirected walking', a phenomenon that essentially fools you into believing you're walking a straight line in the real world when in reality you're walking at a curve. This allows you to fit a much more expansive VR experience inside of a smaller physical space."
Moreover, another Road To VR reviewer noted that he was able to "step freely into the virtually rendered world" that he entered.
"There was no noticeable latency and the tracking, matching my physical space with the virtual, felt spot on," the review continued.
