In a recent interview, UFC champ Ronda Rousey revealed how she hopes to snag the titular role of the "Captain Marvel" movie. But is her acting good enough?
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Rousey said she's "looking forward to doing [her] first starring role opposite Mark Wahlberg" in "Mile 22."
Apparently, the movie is another step towards her ultimate goal in starring in the "Captain Marvel" movie.
"Hopefully by the time [it] comes around, I will have enough experience and skills in the field for them to really seriously consider me," the 28-year-old UFC champ said.
Ronda Rousey's campaign to play the comic book heroine in the silver screen began earlier this year when a fan asked her on Reddit which superhero role she'd want.
Captain Marvel is USAF pilot Carol Danvers' alter ego. Per the character's profile, she has enhanced strength, flight and the ability to shoot energy bursts from her hands. She was also an Avenger for a brief period.
Given her 12-0 record, no one doubts Rousey can live up to the action expected of superhero films. But for Fusion, her current acting skills don't quite make the cut.
Noting her previous roles in "Expendables 3," "Entourage" and "Furious 7," "[her] performance has been light on lines and heavy on physicality," the website said.
"This in and of itself wouldn't be a knock against Rousey were it not for the general woodenness of her on-screen presence."
Fusion went on to point out that Danvers has a nuanced and subtle personality "rooted in the complex relationships she's had both in and out of costume."
Many fans eagerly await and have lots of hope for "Captain Marvel" - the first female-fronted superhero film. Fusion said it's in a position to set the bar for future female superhero films, "but Rousey simply hasn't demonstrated the acting chops needed to bring her to life."
Ronda Rousey is set to defend her title vs. Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Nov. 14 in Melbourne, Australia.
