An industry insider said "No Man's Sky" release date will be announced at this month's Paris Games Week. Another report suggests PlayStation Plus members will enjoy a discounted price for the much-awaited game.
The rumor comes from video game leaker Tidux, who according to iDigitalTimes, "is known around the industry for having leaked some valuable information in the past." Still, he does get some things wrong.
"In the past, he correctly predicted the appearance of 'The Order: 1886' at last year's E3 expo, as well as the reveal of 'Fallout 4' several months before its E3 debut this year," Design & Trend said.
"In that sense, he may not work for Hello Games or Sony, but there's evidence that he may know that people do."
The website also pointed out that a "No Man's Sky" release date announcement at Paris Games Week "makes sense" given that Hello Games is a game studio from the UK.
Another piece of evidence that supports the rumor is a user screenshot of a pre-order of the game on Amazon UK sent to Forbes saying "No Man's Sky" will be delivered on Oct. 27.
The website did caution on its authenticity in the absence of confirmation from official sources.
The rumored release date also coincides with the launch of the Xbox One exclusive "Halo 5: Guardians."
"'No Man's Sky' is a PS4/PC exclusive, so it would certainly give PlayStation gamers an alternative," Forbes said.
Per D&T, PlayStation Plus members are even rumored to get a discounted price for the procedurally-generated game. How much of a discount is still unknown, however.
Despite a high-profile guesting at "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" and appearing at a panel at the New Yorker Festival earlier this month, fans were disappointed that Hello Games' Sean Murray was tight lipped on when the game will come out.
Paris Games Week opens its doors Oct. 28 to Nov. 1 at the Paris Expo fairground - Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. Perhaps fans will know "No Man's Sky" release date then?
