In order to compete with its competitors, Nokia has revealed its first tablet computer The Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.
The new $499 device, called Lumia 2520, comes equipped with a 10 inch screen, and Windows RT, or a unique version of the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system The Journal reported. It also has LTE technology to give users an easy and quick time when they access the internet, comes in a variety of colors, and has an accessory on its keyboard to extend its battery life five hours.
"We want everybody on the planet to have a smartphone," said Stephen Elop, a former chief executive at Nokia told The Journal.
The tablet computer was introduced along with three models of mobile phones to its selection of Asha mobile phones for under $100.
These include the Lumina 1520 which has a high quality camera, and costs $750. The Lumia 1320 has less features then its counterparts and a lower-resolution screen for a cheaper price. The company plans to sell the products in many markets including China and India The Journal reported.
The company will also make the devices available in stores for the holiday season.
In other exciting news, the new Windows phone will also have the photo sharing app instagram in the coming weeks. The new feature will allow Lumia users to look at and lend their photos on the popular software.
The lack of instagram on the device has hurt Microsoft in attempting to getting the Windows 8 operating system off the ground.
The company currently has 175,000 apps in its store. Google and Apple have nearly a million.
Windows phone is however going to get video sharing app vine, which was created by Twitter The Journal reported.
Orders for Nokia's tablets are anticipated to increase 50 percent in 2013.
