Shortly after confirming that he'll be joining the cast of "Star Trek 3: Beyond," Idris Elba now teases his role in the sequel.
Talking to MTV, the 43-year-old British hunk shared interesting information of his villain role.
While he promised that it's going to be "grounbreaking" he assured that his character is still a "classic bad guy."
"I think Star Trek has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like 'he's a guy who wants to end the world,' there's no doubt about that," he explained. "But in this version of the film, there's a slightly different twist to that. It's quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the 'classic bad guy is a classic bad guy' tone."
Could Idris Elba be talking about the long rumored Klingons?
According to Slash Film, Elba's statement could have suggested that his character is not a "classic Star Trek villain," paving more room for the idea of the Klingons.
And while co-star and writer, Simon Pegg previously dismissed rumors claiming that Elba is not playing a Klingon, he did backtracked saying "or maybe he will."
The publication further noted that Pegg had also previously claimed that Benedict Cumberbatch as Khan was just "a myth."
Furthermore, Elba extended his appreciation to his "Star Trek 3" co-star Simon Pegg, who has also penned the script for his character.
"Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character. You've never seen me play a character like this."
In addition to Idris Elba and his mysterious character, "Star Trek 3" cast also include Chris Pine as Captain James T. Kirk, Zachary Quinto as Spock, Simon Pegg as Scotty, Karl Urban as Leonard McCoy a.k.a. Bones, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, John Cho as Hikaru Sulu and Anton Yelchin as Pavel Chekov.
"Kingsman: The Secret Service" star Sofia Boutella will also appear in the movie.
"Star Trek 3: Beyond" is scheduled to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
