Detectives James Gordon (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey Bullock (Donal Logue) will finally meet their new boss.
Last season left the Gotham City Police Department without a leader when Captain Sarah Essen (Zabryna Guevara) was killed, but tonight things will change as episode 4 will see the debut of Captain Nathaniel Barnes (Michael Chiklis) in the show.
Will the new captain be a good guy or a ba?
According to Entertainment Weekly Barnes is strict law-abiding officier, but that doesn't mean that there's no chance for him to turn into a bad person.
"The potential of it is exciting because it really could go in any direction, especially considering what we just shot," Chiklis said of his role. He also said that episode 9 is where the audience will get to see the backstory of Barnes and understand why he is the person he is.
In his interview with Yahoo! TV, Chiklis described his character as a "bull in a bull ring, not a bull in a china shop."
Apparently, Barnes sees a great potential in Gordon, thinking that he's going to be the future of the police department. But that will not come without challenges.
"He's trying to pull him off of that path because he knows that's the way to Hell. It's making for some really good stuff because this whole thing is bubbling up into a war," Chiklis said.
But while James Gordon seems to find a new ally, showrunner Bruno Heller revealed to the Hollywood Reporter that it may not always be the case.
"Finally Gordon has someone who is as gung-ho, committed and reckless enough to challenge the powers that be in Gotham, and bring about genuine change," Heller said. "The problem is that Gordon's going to discover that, although they might be soul mates in their desire to change Gotham, Capt. Barnes is much more committed to the law."
