Guillermo del Toro Admits To Meeting Lucasfilm Execs For 'Star Wars' Spin Off 'Jabba The Hut'

| By

After Disney and Lucasfilm officially announced that once of the spin off movies of "Star Wars" will be a standalone for Han Solo, fans started to ask about the possibility of a "Jabba the Hut" movie as well.

While there's no official announcement to this, new development suggest that there's a big possibility for the "Jabba the Hut" standalone film to push through if things go as plan.

Apparently, "Pacific Rim" director Guillermo del Toro is interested in helming a "Star Wars" spin off film featuring the life of "Jabba the Hut."

In an interview with Happy Sad Confused as reported by Indiewire the award-winning director admitted that he already talked to Lucasfilm execs about the said plan.

"When I spoke to them, when I spoke to [Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer/Senior Visual Effects Supervisor, Industrial Light & Magic] John Knoll, I said to them, if I ever do one, I would love to do a Jabba The Hut Scarface-his ascension in the crime family."

However, Guillermo del Toro wanted to make it clear that nothing has been made finally yet and the meeting was not made to make the "Star War" spin off "Jabba the Hut" official.

"I'm not announcing it, please don't pick it up!" he said to the blogosphere.

While waiting, he is still busy with his numerous upcoming projects including "Crimson Peak," which will open on Oct. 16.

Meanwhile, the "Star Wars" spin off movie featuring Han Solo has been made official through press release held by Disney.

"The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley," it said.

It will be helmed by "22 Jump Street" directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller.

"We promise to take risks, to give the audience a fresh experience, and we pledge ourselves to be faithful stewards of these characters who mean so much to us," Miller and Lord said in a joint statement.

Together with Lord and Miller, Lawrence Kasdan, a veteran writer for the "Star Wars" franchise together with his son, Jon will pen the script.

"It's not just any filmmaker who can tell the story of such a beloved icon like Han Solo, and I'm excited to say we've found the perfect team to handle the task," producer Katheleen Kennedy said in a statement. "Larry [Lawrence] and Jon know all there is to know about the character, and Chris and Phil will bring their wit, style, energy and heart to tell Han's story."

Disney however has yet to reveal who will replace Harrison Ford as the next Han Solo in the said "Star Wars" spin off movie.

The "Star Wars" Han Solo movie is slated for a May 25, 2018 release, while "Jabba the Hut" is still in discussion.
