Guillermo Del Toro Reveals 'Pacific Rim 2' Details As He Reportedly Cast 'Game Of Thrones' Star Maisie Williams

Following reports that "Pacific Rim 2" release date has been delayed, Guillermo del Toro clarified some details involving the sequel to his 2013 hit monster vs. robot themed movie.

Talking to Happy Sad Confused as reported by Indiewire, the "Crimson Peak" director gladly shared progress details about the upcoming film.

"Even when you do a project as insane as 'Pacific Rim,' giant robots, giant monsters: I do it straight," he said of his attitude about making the film.

"I believe in giant robots, I believe in giant monsters, I'm not being ironic or post-modern. Same with Gothic romance, ['Crimson Peak'] has a heightened tone of melodrama and I went for broke."

After being cancelled, halted then put right back in schedule, Guillermo del Toro revealed that he's going to make another film first prior to moving forward with "Pacific Rim 2."

"It's certainly not my next movie," he revealed to the host. "With the push, I feel compelled to do something small and weird, because I need a breather and a little bit more madness in my life."

And since the sequel is still on halt, del Toro is insistent on not sharing any story arc about it.

"I learned through the years, you wanna make God laugh? Tell him what your next movie is," the filmmaker said.

He did however hinted what fans could expect of "Pacific Rim 2."

"I feel more and more inclined lately to do more and more strange stuff. Like doing stuff that is a little bit more cagey, a little bit more quirky," he explained.

Furthermore, del Toro explained how the sequel is still at its early stages of development, where they are still trying to finalize the budget and what nots.

"In three weeks we are delivering a [new] budget and a schedule and a new draft of the screenplay," he said. "And then the studio knows how much it costs, what is it about and then they'll decide if they go ahead or not."

But while the "Pacific Rim 2" development is still on ice, Guillermo del Toro is reportedly dropping hints that he is eyeing on "Game of Thrones" star Maisie Williams to be included in the lineup.

AV Club revealed that del Toro and the 18-year-old Williams already met and as a result, the director was greatly impressed and has decided to cast her.

VC Post added that the award-winning director had even tweeted about the "Game of Thrones" star claiming how "remarkable" she is.

With the development still frozen, "Pacific Rim 2" has yet to announce an official release date.
