Oliver Queen returned to Starling City in "Arrow" season 4 premiere episode after months of escapade with now girlfriend Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards).
They look so in-love with each other. In fact, the Emerald Archer almost proposed to her but was disrupted when Star City friends arrived.
Felicity will not only be the woman in Oliver's life this season. "Arrow" season 4 premiere episode also featured flashbacks to the time when Oliver hasn't returned to his city. This is where he met a lover.
"He's going to encounter a woman he's going to fall in love with," executive producer Mericle told Comic Book Resources when asked about the flashbacks.
Earlier "Arrow" season 4 spoiler said this new character will be played by Elysia Rotaru.
"Oliver is gonna have a love interest in the past that will serve as a parallel or potentially a contrast to his love affair with Felicity in the present," executive producer Marc Guggenheim told Entertainment Weekly back in August.
The flashbacks are also where Oliver will encounter supernatural events that science cannot explain. These events will play a pivotal role in the show's ongoing present story involving Thea and Damie Darhk.
"He's also going to encounter a lot of magic and mysticism, and that is going inform what he's dealing with in Star City in the present day, with Damien Darhk," Mericle added.
In separate interview with Variety, executive producer Marc Guggenheim said Darhk is someone who enjoys having no conscience unlike the first three season's main villains who have plans for greater good.
"In Malcolm, in Ra's and in Slade, they all thought they were doing the right thing," Guggenheim said.
"They had their own nobility. Not so much with Damien. Damien really could give a f-k whether you think he's noble... And he's really enjoying having no conscience. It's very freeing for him."
